The Ruling on Collective Supplication After the Obligatory Prayers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother asks and says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A group does not gather, with some of them supplicating and some saying "Ameen," except that Allah answers them.لا يجتمع ملأ فيدعو بعضهم ويؤمن بعضهم إلا أجابهم الله
It was narrated by al-Tabarani, al-Hakim, and al-Bayhaqi. Can this hadith be considered evidence for supplication after congregational prayer, meaning: collective supplication?

Answer:
We do not know the authenticity of this hadith; it needs its chain of narration to be reviewed. If its chain is authentic, it is to be understood in light of other cases that do not contradict what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, for hadiths explain one another, just as verses explain one another. If this hadith is authentic, it is to be applied to the places where supplication is made and where people say "Ameen."
As for places that are not a place for collective supplication, or for supplication where hands are raised, they are excluded from this hadith. This includes supplication after the five obligatory prayers. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did not make collective supplication or supplication with raised hands after them; he used to supplicate between himself and his Lord. And so the one who prays should do the same. There is no harm in supplicating after the prayer, following the prescribed remembrances, with whatever supplications are easy to recite. However, it should not be collective supplication, nor supplication with raised hands; because this has not been preserved from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the obligatory prayers, not in the midday prayer, nor the afternoon prayer, nor the sunset prayer, nor the night prayer, nor the dawn prayer. If it had occurred from him (peace and blessings be upon him) or from the Rightly Guided Caliphs, it would have been transmitted; for the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) transmitted everything, leaving nothing out. Indeed, they transmitted from their Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) everything they witnessed and everything they heard (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) that benefits the Muslims. So if this report is authentic, it is to be understood in light of circumstances that do not contradict what is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadiths. Yes.
