Declaring the recitation of tasbih to be a means of expiation for minor sins but not major sins

Question:
He says: I heard that whoever recites tasbih of Allah one hundred times, all his sins, both minor and major, are forgiven. Is this correct?
Answer:
The correct view is that it is the minor sins that are forgiven, not the major ones. This is based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): This is qualified by the statement of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Al-Nisa: 31] So Allah, the Exalted, said: [Al-Nisa: 31] Thus, He made the expiation of sins conditional upon avoiding major sins. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 564.
And when he mentioned wudu and that it is an expiation, he said:Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 1:144 meaning: a major sin. So the condition for the expiation of bad deeds is avoiding major sins. Major sins include zina, theft, undutifulness to parents, severing family ties, giving false testimony, consuming riba, and the like. These are the major sins—we seek refuge in Allah—and they are the sins and disobediences that carry severe warnings. Yes.

Answer:
The correct view is that it is the minor sins that are forgiven, not the major ones. This is based on the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever says in the morning: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, and in the evening: Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi, one hundred times, his sins are forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.
من قال حين يصبح: سبحان الله وبحمده، وحين يمسي: سبحان الله وبحمده، مائة مرة؛ غفرت خطاياه، وإن كانت مثل زبد البحرIf you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins
إِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْIf you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins
إِنْ تَجْتَنِبُوا كَبَائِرَ مَا تُنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ نُكَفِّرْ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْThe five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.

Unless one commits a major sin.
