Does the expiation of sins apply only to minor sins?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does it expiate minor sins or major sins?

Answer:
Allah the Exalted says:
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins
[Surat al-Nisa: 31], meaning minor sins. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The five prayers, and Al-Jumuah (the Friday prayer) to Al-Jumuah are atonement for what is between them, as long as the major sins have not been committed.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 214Sahih (Darussalam)
And in the other wording:
As long as major sins are avoided.
