What is the ruling on one who denies the attributes of Allah, or some of them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Does the one who denies some of the attributes, or all of them, become a disbeliever?

Answer:
This requires detailed explanation. The evidence is established against him, because he may be ignorant of some of the attributes. It is explained to him. The one who denies what the Qur'an and the Sunnah indicate is a disbeliever. For example, if he denies al-Rahman (the Most Merciful), al-Rahim (the Merciful), al-Hakim (the Wise), al-Quddus (the Holy), or al-Malik (the King), and he is a layperson, it is explained to him that the Qur'an and the Sunnah have come with these.
Q: What if he interprets them figuratively, O Shaykh?
A: As for ta'wil (figurative interpretation), there is no disagreement. For example, the Asha'irah and others are not declared disbelievers, because there is a doubtful matter (shubhah) in ta'wil. This is unlike the Mu'tazilah and the Jahmiyyah, who are disbelievers, because they denied the attributes entirely, and denied the names and attributes. The Jahmiyyah have no names or attributes. We ask Allah for safety.
