How to Calculate the Zakah of Women's Jewelry

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
How do we calculate the zakah on women's gold?

Answer:
It is zakah-able just like any other gold, at the rate of one-quarter of one-tenth. As for gold, the correct ruling is that zakah is due on it even if it is worn. If it reaches the nisab, one-quarter of one-tenth is paid from the value of the jewelry, such as gold, rings, necklaces, bracelets, and so on. Its weight is determined in the market, and zakah is paid based on its market value in known gold.
This applies if it is gold or silver. As for anything else, such as diamonds or types of jewelry other than gold and silver, there is no zakah on them if they are for wearing, not for sale or trade. There is no zakah on them.
Even if it is not intended for trade?

Answer: Even if it is not intended for trade, this is the correct view. The most authentic of the scholars' opinions is that zakah is due if it reaches the nisab, which is twenty mithqals of gold. Its amount is eleven pounds and three-sevenths of a pound. This is its measure.
