What is meant by the trial of the grave?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It was mentioned in the lecture that the wrongdoer is punished in his grave with a barzakh punishment, and you said that the wrongdoer is tested in his grave. So how is the trial conducted? Is there anyone who tests him other than Satan?

Answer:
The trial in the graves means the test and the examination. Satan’s role is over; his role is over. Satan’s role is over, and the role of the angels has come. So the trial by Satan is before death, whereas after death, as Allah said:
Taste your trialذُوقُوا فِتْنَتَكُمْ
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 14].
So the meaning is: they are tested in the graves with a trial that means examination and testing. Burning with fire is also called a trial. So if the deceased answers the questions correctly, he has Paradise, a karamah, and his grave is a garden from the gardens of Paradise.
And if he answers with a bad answer, saying: "Ah, ah, I do not know. I heard people saying something, so I said it," then he is struck with a muzzab from iron, and he lets out a scream that everything hears except humans. This is how he is punished in his grave and tormented—may Allah protect us from that. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) showed him two graves being tormented. He said:
but they are not being punished for anything majorوما يعذبان في كبير
Sunan Ibn Majah 349Sahih (Darussalam)
Then he said:
not for a major sin (to avoid). One of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urineبلى، إنه لكبير، أما أحدهما: فكان لا يستتر من البول
Sahih al-Bukhari 218
meaning: he does not purify himself from it, as in another narration:
and the other used to walk about spreading malicious gossip.وأما الآخر: فكان يمشي بالنميمة
Sunan Ibn Majah 347Sahih (Darussalam)
conveying bad speech between people, some to others. This is a severe warning indicating that whoever dies while engaged in talebearing and not purifying himself from impurities is in danger of punishment in his grave. We ask Allah for well-being.
