Explanation of the author's statement: "Those are the ones who, when a righteous man or a righteous slave dies among them, build a mosque over his grave and depict those images in it"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
When a pious man among those people dies
Mishkat al-Masabih 4508

The "or" here indicates uncertainty on the part of the narrator as to whether Umm Salamah said "a righteous man" or "a righteous slave."
they build over his grave
over the grave of this man.
they build a place of worship on his grave, and then decorate it with such pictures
Sahih Muslim 528a
the images she saw them depicting. The most likely is that they depict them in the likeness of that righteous man. They may add to them others from among the righteous. The images may be in a large form, a medium form, or a small form. Does that result in one image or many images? Many images.
He said:
Those are the worst creatures in the Sight of Allah.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1341
. - I seek refuge in Allah -
Those are the worst creatures in the Sight of Allah.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1341
because their action is a means to disbelief and associating partners with Him, and the greatest and most severe injustice is shirk (associating partners with Allah). So whoever is a means to that is deserving of being among the worst of creation in the sight of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He).
The author said: "So these people combined between the two trials: the trial of graves and the trial of statues".
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Hm?
The student: Between two trials.

The Shaykh : Between what?
The student: Between two trials.

The Shaykh : Between two trials... between the two trials: the trial of graves and the trial of statues. This statement is from the words of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him).
"The trial of graves".
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : From the words of Ibn Taymiyyah, from the words of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah.
The student: What he added.

The Shaykh : Yes, what he added, but it appears...
His statement: "The trial of graves". How is that? Because they built mosques over them.
"And the trial of statues" because they depicted images, so they combined between two trials. It is called a trial because it is a cause for turning people away from their religion. And anything that is a cause for turning people away from the religion is from the trial. Allah the Exalted said:
(1) Alif, Lam, Meem (2) Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?
[Al-'Ankabut 29:1-2]
And He the Exalted said:
Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented
[Al-Buruj 85:10]
"They tried them" means they turned them away and did what turns them away from the religion. So, this trial is named as such because it turns away from the religion.
