What is the ruling on placing more than one deceased person in a grave?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on placing more than one deceased person in a single grave, and opening it when a deceased person from the same family is found, as is the case in some cities?

Answer:
The Sunnah is to bury each person in a separate grave; this is the Sunnah. This is how it was done in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in al-Baqi', each person separately, without burying two or three together.
But if there is a need, such as many deaths due to a plague or a war, where many people die, there is no harm in placing two or three in a single grave, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did on the day of Uhud when they buried two and three together in a single grave on the day of Uhud. So if a calamity occurs, meaning many deaths, or a plague in which many people die, there is no harm in placing two or three in a single grave.
