Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 3596 )
Q1: We have a phenomenon here about which we wish to know the opinion of the religion, and it is this: they place in the grave with the deceased a book called (al-Dawshan) or (al-Qudwah), and the writers of these books claim that it secures the deceased in his answer to the questions?
A1: It is not permissible to place a book with the deceased for the purpose of securing him when questioned by the two angels, nor for any other purpose; because securing [the soul] is from Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as He the Exalted said:[Ibrahim 14:27] , and because this is a religious innovation (bid'ah). It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Allah keeps firm those who believe, with the firm word, in worldly life and in the Hereafter. And Allah sends astray the wrongdoers. And Allah does what He wills.
