The Ruling on Men Delivering Women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Our sister is asking a question that His Eminence the Shaykh has previously addressed. She says: In some hospitals, male doctors deliver women and expose their private parts. Is there sin in that? Is it forbidden in the Shari'ah? Does the woman incur sin? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: It is obligatory for the authorities to arrange for women to do this, and they have previously agreed with them on this matter. They promised well and that they are keen to train female doctors, and that they will exert, and have exerted, great effort to ensure that women deliver women. This is the obligation. If that is not feasible, and there is fear for the woman if a man does not deliver her, and it is feared for her from that, then there is no blame:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun:16] If the need and dire necessity call for it, there is nothing wrong with it. Otherwise, it is obligatory that no one but women deliver her. If no women are found, there is no need for delivery; because people have gone through long ages without needing doctors for delivery. The woman gives birth in her home, and praise be to Allah. But if there is fear for her, or it is feared for her, then men delivering her is permissible when there is need. Yes.
