The Conditions of Islam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: Our brother asks a question at the end of his letter, saying: What are the conditions of Islam?
The answer: The conditions of Islam are two:
The first condition: Sincerity for Allah, and that you intend with your Islam and your entry into the religion of Allah, and with your deeds, the Face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This is necessary. Any deed you do that is not for the Face of Allah, whether it is prayer, charity, fasting, or anything else, will not be beneficial or accepted. Even the two testimonies, if you perform them out of showing off or hypocrisy, will not be accepted and will not benefit you; you will be among the hypocrites. So it is necessary that your saying, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah," be truthful from your heart. You must believe in Allah alone, that He is the one worshipped in truth, and that Muhammad is the truthful Messenger of Allah, that he is truly the Messenger of Allah, and that he is the Seal of the Prophets. If it is truthful and sincere, it will benefit you. And so it is with your prayer: you worship Allah with it alone. So it is with your charity, your recitation, your glorification of Allah, your fasting, and your Hajj: they must be for Allah alone.
The second condition: Conformity to the Shari'ah. Your deeds must conform to the Shari'ah, not be from your own opinion or from your independent legal reasoning. You must seek to conform to the Shari'ah: you pray as Allah has prescribed, you fast as Allah has prescribed, you give zakah as Allah has prescribed, you strive in the path of Allah as Allah has prescribed, and you perform Hajj as Allah has prescribed. Thus the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
And Allah says in His great Book:
Or have they other deities who have ordained for them a religion to which Allah has not consented?أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُوا لَهُمْ مِنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنْ بِهِ اللَّهُ
[Al-Shura: 21]. He criticizes them for this, and He says (Glorified and Exalted is He):
(18) Then We put you, [O Muhammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know. (19) Indeed, they will never avail you against Allah at allثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاكَ عَلَى شَرِيعَةٍ مِنَ الأَمْرِ فَاتَّبِعْهَا وَلا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَاءَ الَّذِينَ لا يَعْلَمُونَ إِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يُغْنُواا عَنكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا
[Al-Jathiyah: 18].
So it is obligatory to follow the Shari'ah that Allah prescribed through His Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and not to deviate from it in all the acts of worship by which one draws near to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). These are the conditions of Islam, two conditions:
The first: Sincerity for Allah in the deed.
And the second: Conformity to the Shari'ah. This is what makes your acts of worship beneficial and causes Allah to accept your acts of worship if you are a Muslim.
Yes.
