The ruling on a man saying to his wife: “Put on your clothes and go to your family”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message we received from the Arab Republic of Egypt, from the Sharqia Governorate, from a questioner who used the initials (A. S. M.) as a code for his name. He says: A disagreement occurred between me and my wife, and in anger I hit her one day, so she cried and said: I want you to divorce me. I said to her: Put on your clothes so I can take you to your family, and we will see who there will look for you. When she wanted to put on her clothes, I prevented her from doing so, and we reconciled that day, as if nothing had happened. However, my mind keeps telling me from time to time about what happened between us. Is this considered a divorce or not? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: If the reality is as the questioner described, then it is not a divorce; rather, the questioner’s wife is still with him, and nothing has occurred to her. His saying, “Put on your clothes,” is not a divorce. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and may Allah bless you.
