Ruling on a woman making the Book of Allah her mahr
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The following message was received by the program from al-Ahsa, sent by one of the sisters from there, identified as (A. A. A). She asks: Is it permissible for me to request the mahr be the Book of Allah, the Noble Qur'an? My goal is to find that in the Hereafter, since my recitation of it earns ten good deeds for each letter. That is, I want to store it as a treasure in the Hereafter, not in this world. Also, I want there to be ease and simplicity in my mahr.
Answer: It is prescribed that the mahr be money, as Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Nisa: 24]. When the woman who offered herself to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him, and he did not accept her, and he wanted to marry her to one of his Companions, he said: So it is prescribed that there be money, even if it is a small amount.
If the husband is unable and cannot find money, it is permissible, according to the correct opinion, to marry her on the condition that he teaches her some verses of the Qur'an, or some surahs, and those verses or surahs serve as her mahr, and there is no blame in that. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married the woman who had offered herself to one of his Companions on the condition that he teach her so much of the Qur'an. All of this is permissible.
But if money is available, money takes precedence, even if it is a small amount. Teaching comes after that; if she wants her husband to teach her, he teaches her what is feasible. This is a matter of good companionship: that he teaches her, guides her, and cooperates with her in good. This is a separate matter. Allah says: [Surat al-Nisa: 19], and He the Exalted says: [Surat al-Baqarah: 228]. If he treats her with a manner of life that includes teaching her the Qur'an, teaching her the Sunnah, and teaching her the rulings of Allah, that is a great good. But one does not suffice with this as the mahr except in cases of need and inability to provide money. Yes.

Answer: It is prescribed that the mahr be money, as Allah the Exalted said:
that you seek them [in marriage] with [gifts from] your property
