The Ruling on Keeping Photographs for Remembrance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We have many photographs, most of which are of family and friends, and I have kept them for a long time for remembrance. Am I sinful for collecting them?
Answer: Yes, you must destroy them and remove them, and not keep them; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Spare no portrait unwiped outلا تدع صورة إلا طمستها
Riyad as-Salihin 1687
and because he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade images in the house.
Therefore, you should destroy them, and there is no need for remembrance through photographs. It is sufficient to remember your relatives and friends in your heart. There is no need for photographs. May Allah guide you and grant us and you success.
