What is the Muslim's obligation toward his relative who does not pray?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The following message was received by the program from Kuwait, and its sender is our brother (F. J. A). Our brother asks and says: He has a grandfather, and this grandfather is seventy years old, but he does not pray. What do you say, Your Eminence, the Shaykh?
Answer: It is obligatory to advise this grandfather before his time comes, for he has reached an advanced age; his years have grown old and he is in danger of his time arriving. Therefore, it is obligatory to advise him and direct him to good, to admonish him and remind him; perhaps Allah will guide him so that he performs the prayer. If he repents and prays, he does not have to make up what was missed, but he must hasten to repent and rush to repent before his time arrives. He must pray from the moment he repents to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He must pray going forward, seek forgiveness from his Lord (Mighty and Majestic) for what has passed, and he should do as much good work as possible. Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: [20:82] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: [25:68] [25:69] [25:70] So he must repent to Allah with a sincere repentance, by feeling regret for what has passed, abandoning the leaving of prayer, and resolving not to return to it, and by maintaining it at its times with the Muslims. He must do much good work; perhaps Allah will accept his repentance and replace his bad deeds with good ones. Yes.

But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.
And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty.
Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated -
Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
