The ruling on dedicating the reward of reciting the Qur'an to others

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
In her second question, she asks: Is it permissible for me to complete a recitation of the Qur'an for my parents, knowing that they are illiterate and cannot read or write? Is it permissible for me to complete a recitation of the Qur'an for a person who knows how to read and write, but I wish to dedicate this recitation to him? And is it permissible for me to dedicate it to more than one person?
Answer: There is no indication in the Noble Book or in the pure Sunnah of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) or of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that sending the recitation of the Qur'an as a gift is permissible, whether for one's parents or for anyone else. Rather, Allah has prescribed the recitation of the Qur'an for benefiting from it, gaining profit from it, reflecting on its meanings, and acting upon it, as Allah the Exalted said:
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
[Surah Sad: 29]. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: :
Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable
[Surah al-Isra: 9]. And He the Exalted said:
Say, "It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure."
[Surah Fussilat: 44].
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Read the Qur'an, for it will come as an intercessor for its people on the Day of Resurrection
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
On the day of resurrection the Qur’ān and those who acted according to it will be brought with sūra al-Baqara and Āl ‘Imran preceding them* like two black clouds or canopies with light between them, or as though they were two flocks of birds in ranks pleading for the one who recited them.
Mishkat al-Masabih 2121
.
The point is that the Qur'an was revealed to be acted upon, reflected upon, and recited frequently for the sake of reward. The greatest objective is to act upon this great Book. As for dedicating it to parents or to anyone other than parents, I do not know of any reliable basis for it, even though some scholars have said so. They stated that there is no harm in dedicating the reward of the Qur'an and other righteous deeds. This was said by a group of scholars, but I do not know of a clear evidence for it from the Book or the Sunnah. Dedicating rewards is established in the case of charity: one gives charity, makes du'a for his parents and others, all of which is good. One performs Hajj or 'Umrah, and there is no harm in doing so on behalf of deceased parents or those unable to do so due to old age. However, dedicating the recitation of the Qur'an, or dedicating prayer, or dedicating fasting, or dedicating tasbih and tahlil, we do not know of any basis for these.
Therefore, what we advise, indicate, and recommend is to refrain from dedicating the Book of Allah or physical acts of worship, such as prayer and the like. Rather, dedication is done through what Allah has prescribed, such as charity and du'a, or Hajj and 'Umrah for the deceased or those who are unable. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
