Following a latecomer in prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
We received a letter from a listener who signed it as a student of knowledge. He says at the beginning of his letter: If I find that the imam has already said the closing salam, while some of the ma'mums who missed some of the rak'ahs with the imam are still making them up, is it permissible for me to pray behind him as a follower for a second congregation, or not?
Answer: The matter in this is broad. If you pray alone, that is more cautious and preferable in order to avoid the disagreement among scholars. If you have a congregation with you, the preferable and better option is that you all pray together and do not pray with the latecomer. If you pray with the latecomer and make him your imam, there is no blame on you according to the correct opinion, and the prayer is valid, if Allah wills. However, the better and preferable option for you is to pray alone; because many scholars do not consider the imamate of a latecomer who has stood up to make up what he owes to be valid. If you pray with him, there is no blame, just as if you entered with a person who is praying alone and made him your imam and prayed with him, there is no blame in that, and congregation is required. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
