The Remedy for Sins and Disobedience

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received by the program from the Eastern Region from one of the brothers, identified as (S. A. H. M.), of Yemeni nationality. Our brother’s message is actually lengthy, but he complains of a bad state he went through at a certain age, mentioning the age of eighteen. Shaykh Abdul Aziz says: He committed some sins during that stage, and his age was eighteen years old. He asks about the expiation and guidance?
Answer: Praise be to Allah. Allah has prescribed repentance for His servants, so He, the Exalted, said:
And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
[Al-Nur: 31]. He made repentance a success for the one who repents. And He, the Exalted, said:
O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance.يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحًا
[At-Tahrim 66:8]
the verse [Al-Tahrim: 8]. So it is obligatory upon you, O questioner, to repent to Allah. This is done by feeling regret for what has passed, being sorry and sad about what has passed, and making a sincere resolve not to return to it. It is a strong, sincere resolve not to return to this evil, along with abandoning it and leaving it off out of fear of Allah, magnification of Allah, and sincerity to Him, Blessed and Exalted is He.
This is the remedy for past sins. Its remedy is sincere repentance, which includes regret for the past, abandoning the sin immediately, and a sincere resolve not to return to it. This is how the believer is in his repentance.
And if there are rights of other people involved, then a fourth condition is also necessary, which is to return to them what is in your possession of their rights, or to seek their forgiveness for it. If you pay them and give them what you have of their money and satisfy them with their right, their matter is concluded. And if they forgive you and release you, that is also acceptable. This is based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
Whoever has an injustice against his brother, whether regarding his honor or something else, let him seek his forgiveness today before there is no dinar or dirham. If he has good deeds, they will be taken from his good deeds according to the extent of his injustice. If he has no good deeds, the bad deeds of his brother will be taken and placed upon him.
And this is a great danger.
So you, my brother, must adhere to rectitude in repentance and righteous deeds, and beware of returning to what Allah has forbidden for you. And be glad of good, and be glad of a good outcome; because repentance is success for its people and salvation for its people. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
