Ruling on Women Practicing Sports

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A sister of ours from Iraq, Basra Province, a believer (M. A. D.), says: Our sister’s message is somewhat long; the summary of her question is about sports for young girls?
Answer: The term "sports" is a general word. Sports among girls in activities that do not contradict the pure Shari'ah, provided there is no excessive mixing in a place exclusive to them where men do not mix with them and men do not see them, or swimming in their homes or in their private school where men do not see them and do not interact with them, is not harmful.
As for sports that result in mixing between men and women, or that men see, or that cause harm to the Muslims, they are not permissible. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between cases.
Sports that are specific to women and contain no religious objection, and involve no mixing with men, but take place in a secluded place away from mixing, are permissible, whether it is walking, swimming, or the like. Yes, and likewise competitions among them. Yes.
