Ruling on a person designating a specific plot of land for his burial
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: The second question in the letter from our brother Abbas. He says: My wife purchased a plot of land in the cemetery so that this small piece would serve as her grave when she passes away. However, I do not wish for her to do this or to be buried in that location. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is this hadith authentic? And do I bear any sin in this matter? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
The answer: As for this hadith, I do not know of any basis for it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). However, the Sunnah is to bury a Muslim with the deceased Muslims in their cemeteries, and not to have the burial in an isolated location. This is because placing it in an isolated, separate location may lead to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and may lead to its desecration by people trampling on it, throwing garbage on it, or the like. Therefore, what is prescribed is that the burial be with the Muslims. If the land your wife purchased is far from the Muslim cemeteries, then what she should do is be buried in the Muslim cemeteries when she dies. This land should be sold, and its value spent on the interests of the Muslims, or used to purchase land near the cemetery to be added to it as an expansion.
So the conclusion is that this land she purchased, which she wants as her burial place and which is far from the graves of the Muslims, should be sold, and its value spent on land adjacent to the cemetery to expand the cemetery, or on the needs of the cemetery, such as providing a place for milk, or a place for washing the dead, or the like. She should not be buried alone.
However, if the land is adjacent to the cemetery or inside the cemetery, and she purchased it for expansion, then there is no harm in her being buried there, and you have no right to object to it. This is because there is nothing wrong with it as long as the land is attached to the cemetery, adjacent to the cemetery, and included in the calculation of the cemetery. So there is no harm.

Wherever they died, bury them
