The student’s error in al-Saqaf’s understanding of a phrase by Ibn Hibban in al-Majruhin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : But it is funny, meaning it shows how much he knows. He came to the biography of Abu Khalid al-Dalalani in Ibn Hibban’s al-Majruhin and said: “Al-Saqaf opened the book and said: Ibn Hibban said: ‘It is not permissible to cite him as evidence if he does not agree with the trustworthy narrators, so how much less if he narrates alone and presents difficult problems?’” So what is al-Saqaf saying? He did this with the phrase, but in Ibn Hibban it is: “It is not permissible to cite him as evidence if he agrees with the trustworthy narrators, so how much less if he narrates alone and presents difficult problems.” He did not understand the phrase; he thought it was praise, so he changed it to “if he does not agree with the trustworthy narrators.”
