The Ruling on Giving a Gift to One Who Brings You Good News

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
One of the brothers asks: I participated in a Qur'an competition during the blessed month of Ramadan, which was hosted by the Qur'an Radio. I won a prize of ten thousand riyals. I did not hear the result myself, but it was broadcast, and some of my friends wrote to me. I received the prize, but my heart was not at ease about it unless I gave them a share, as the saying goes, because the merit belongs to Allah, and then to them. Is it in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) if I give them some of this?

Answer:
We know of nothing wrong with it. There is no harm. When Ka'b ibn Malik was informed by some of the Companions of Allah's acceptance of his repentance, he gave them two garments, the two garments he was wearing. So if the one who brings good news benefits you, give him dirhams or clothing; there is no harm.
