The Grade of the Hadith Regarding the Adhan and Iqamah in the Ears of a Newborn

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the authenticity of the hadith regarding the adhan and iqamah in the ears of a newborn?

Answer:
There is a hadith on this matter narrated by al-Tirmidhi and others, and there is weakness in its chain, but a group of scholars acted upon it, such as 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz and a group of others. There is also another hadith that supports it, which is also weak. So, whoever does it, there is nothing wrong with it. It is established by the Sunnah, with some parts strengthening others, even if there is weakness in them, but they strengthen one another. The Muslims have acted upon it extensively. And whoever leaves it, there is nothing wrong with that.

Question: When is this done?

Answer: On the seventh day, or on the first day, the adhan is called in his right ear, and the iqamah is called in his left ear, and he is named on the first day or on the seventh day, and his head is shaved. All of this is a recommended practice (sunnah).
