The ruling on stoning the pillars after the sun sets on the Day of Sacrifice

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It is reported in a hadith of Ibn 'Abbas that he said: "I stoned after I had become evening." He said: "There is no blame on him." Al-Bayhaqi graded it as authentic. Is it correct that it is permissible to stone the pillars after the sun sets on the Day of Sacrifice?

Answer:
This was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked on the Day of Sacrifice. It is in al-Bukhari: that he was asked on the Day of Sacrifice, not during the days of Tashreeq, but on the Day of Sacrifice. A questioner asked him: "I stoned after I had become evening," meaning he stoned at the end of the day. This is sufficient according to all scholars. If he stoned at the end of the day, it is sufficient on the day of the festival, or if he stoned after the midday prayer, or after the afternoon prayer; there is nothing wrong with it. It does not mean in the night; because he asked him before the night came. "I stoned after I had become evening" means when the sun had passed its zenith and the evening had entered. So its meaning is that he stoned after the midday prayer, or after the afternoon prayer; and that is sufficient.
And if he stoned after the sun set, this is a matter of disagreement among the scholars. Some of the scholars said: It is sufficient, and this is the opinion of a group of scholars, and it is a strong opinion.
And others said: If the sun sets, it is not sufficient, but it is postponed, and he stones after the sun passes its zenith before the eleventh day. He stones the pillars on the eleventh day after the sun passes its zenith, before he stones the pillars of the eleventh day. This is the well-known opinion among others.
And others said: It is sufficient if he stoned it after sunset, if he missed the stoning during the day, and stoned after sunset for the past day; it is sufficient, and it is a strong opinion, and there is nothing wrong with it in case of need.
But the believer should strive to stone during the day, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stoned, and as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them satisfaction) stoned on the day of the festival. And likewise in the days after it, he stones after the sun passes its zenith before the sun sets. If things become difficult for him, and the sun sets, and he did not stone; the stoning after sunset at the end of the night is sufficient according to the correct opinion.
