The Error of Dividing Innovations into Good and Bad

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We ask Your Eminence to explain the topic of bid'ah (religious innovation) in as much detail as possible, and when an act becomes a bid'ah, and when it becomes a good sunnah (recommended practice); because this topic causes many differences among Muslims?

Answer:
There is nothing good among the bid'ah (religious innovations); they are all misguidance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Every innovation is misguidance.كل بدعة ضلالة
He is the just imam (peace and blessings be upon him) and the guiding teacher (peace and blessings be upon him). He said:
Every innovation is misguidance.كل بدعة ضلالة
Therefore, it is not permissible for anyone to say that some bid'ah (religious innovations) are not misguidance, for this means contradicting the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and means opposing him (peace and blessings be upon him).
Those who said that bid'ah (religious innovations) have categories, their statement is not correct. All bid'ah (religious innovations) are misguidance. What they claimed to be a bid'ah (religious innovation) from what is obligatory, such as the gathering of the Noble Qur'an, its dotting, and its vocalization, this is not from the bid'ah (religious innovations). Rather, this is from securing the Qur'an, from caring for the Qur'an, and from what Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has prescribed .
The conclusion is that there is nothing good in bid'ah (religious innovations); they are all misguidance, as the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
every novelty is an innovation, and every innovation is an errorكل محدثة بدعة، وكل بدعة ضلالة
Sunan Abi Dawud 4607Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
The division is not permissible and has no basis. And what is narrated from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said regarding tarawih (the Ramadan night prayer): "What a good bid'ah this is," the scholars said about it that his intention was that it is a bid'ah (religious innovation) from the linguistic perspective; because in the Arabic language, anything that has no precedent is called a bid'ah (religious innovation). So the intention is not that it is a bid'ah (religious innovation) in the religion, but rather his gathering of the people behind one imam after they were scattered, he called it that from the linguistic perspective. Otherwise, it is not a bid'ah (religious innovation), but it is a sunnah (recommended practice). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed tarawih (the Ramadan night prayer), and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) performed it, so it is a confirmed sunnah (recommended practice), and it is not a bid'ah (religious innovation).
