The ruling on placing iron in the doors of houses to prevent lightning

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among the people of the South, in some villages, there is a custom when it rains. We hear the thunder, and upon hearing the thunder, they place an iron bar in the door of the house, believing that it prevents them from being struck by lightning. They also believe that it prevents the entry of jinn into the house as long as that iron bar is present. What is your opinion, Your Eminence?

Answer:
This is reprehensible, and it is obligatory to advise them. This has no basis. However, one should say: "Glory be to Him who the thunder glorifies with His praise, and the angels out of fear of Him. O Allah, do not kill us with Your anger, and do not cause us to die with Your punishment..." This is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but not through this action. When a person hears something that distresses him, he should ask Allah for well-being.
