Ruling on making up fasting for one who died with fasting owed
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to make up fasting for one of my relatives who passed away, having some of Ramadan owed? And who is the one who fasts for his family?
Answer:
If he fasts for them, he will be rewarded. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1147 The close guardian, meaning that if his relatives fast, they are more entitled to do so than others. And if others fast, there is no harm; it suffices, just like a debt. Because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) compared it to a debt, and a debt is paid by the close relative and the distant one, if the deceased was obligated to make it up.
As for if the deceased died in illness, and did not live after the illness, but died in the illness, then he owes nothing.
