If the imam ascends the pulpit and says, “Peace be upon you,” on Friday in a loud voice, and the mu’adhdhin responds to him in the same voice using the microphone, is there anything wrong with this?

The questioner : If the imam ascends the pulpit and says, “Peace be upon you,” as is customary on Friday, in a loud voice, and the mu’adhdhin responds to him in the same voice using the microphone, is there anything wrong with this?

The Shaykh : I think this should not be done, because the greeting is not for the mu’adhdhin alone, but for everyone. However, a sound must be issued that the khatib can hear, even if it is from the front row, so that they respond to him. As for them all remaining silent and not giving the khatib an audible response, there is concern in this; I fear that they would all commit a sin.
