Ruling on depositing money in interest-based banks without taking interest

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to deposit money in an interest-based bank, such as the Arab National Bank? And what is the ruling on leaving this bank if it deals in interest, while I do not deal with it?

Answer:
The basic ruling is that it is not permissible to deposit money in interest-based banks; this is the basic ruling, because doing so assists them in their evil deeds. However, if one is compelled to do so and fears for his money, he deposits it without the condition of interest; he deposits it as a mere deposit without the condition of interest.
If it is possible for him to have a safe deposit box in this bank, with the key kept by him, that is safer, so that he does not assist them in their interest if this is possible. This is practiced, as we have been informed, in some banks: he has a private safe deposit box containing his money, and he pays them a known fee, per week or per month, until he retrieves this box. This is better and more excellent. If that is not possible, he leaves it with them without interest solely out of dire necessity. However, if it is possible to deposit it in a non-interest-based place, that is what is obligatory for him.
