The Ruling on Scholars Appearing on Television and Other Media

Question:
We read in a book by one of the writers, in the book *Islamic Advice*, that it is not permissible for scholars to appear on television or other media; because it is aiding the people of falsehood. What is the extent of the correctness of their statement?

Answer:
Appearing on television, if the intention is to support the truth, we hope that there is no blame on him—Allah willing—if he appears on television, or in a television panel for the truth, supporting the truth; because television has become widespread, and now people watch it everywhere.
So if the people of truth do not appear on it, then only the people of falsehood will appear, and falsehood will spread. If the callers to the truth and the words of truth appear on television and are disseminated, this is something by which Allah benefits the people. So whoever appears on it with the intention of truth, and the intention of eliminating falsehood, and calling people to good, we hope that there is no blame on him out of necessity.
