Dedication of reward to the deceased if he affirmed the oneness of Allah but did not pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person’s mother, for example, did not pray, but she affirmed the oneness of Allah, and she died while persistently leaving off the prayer, knowing the ruling on leaving off the prayer, and holding a belief in shirk (associating partners with Allah) regarding the awliya (close friends of Allah) and the righteous, believing in them in this way, should one sacrifice for her, or seek forgiveness for her?

Answer:
No, no, one who dies upon shirk (associating partners with Allah) is not to be sought forgiveness for. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked his Lord for permission to seek forgiveness for his mother—who died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance—but He did not grant him permission. He granted him permission to visit her grave, but He did not grant him permission to seek forgiveness for her. Likewise, He did not grant him permission to seek forgiveness for his uncle Abu Talib, even though Abu Talib had supported him and protected him. And Allah revealed regarding this:
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relativesمَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا أُولِي قُرْبَى
[Surah al-Tawbah: 113].
Therefore, one does not seek forgiveness for a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah), even if it is his mother, if she died upon shirk (associating partners with Allah) or upon leaving off the prayer. One does not seek forgiveness for her, nor does one make du'a' (supplication) for her. However, one does not make du'a' (supplication) against her. Do not revile the dead, for they have entered into what they sent ahead. But one who dies upon shirk (associating partners with Allah), whether he is a father, a mother, or a brother, one does not make du'a' (supplication) for him, nor does one seek forgiveness for him. We ask Allah for safety and well-being.
