I saw a man drinking while holding the cup in his left hand and placing it on the back of his right hand, so I rebuked him, and he said, "I am drinking with my right hand." What is your opinion on that?

The Shaykh : (peace and blessings be upon him), and they did not stand up for him because of what they knew of his dislike of that; therefore, beware of standing up and ... .
The student : I seek forgiveness from Allah, and we ask Allah to forgive us.

The Shaykh : How are you?
The student : Praise be to Allah, I am well.

The Shaykh : Are all your dependents well?
The student : Yes, they are all well.

The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah.

The questioner : Shaykh, I saw some of the brothers taking the cup with their left hand and placing it on their right hand like this from the outside and drinking, so I tell him, "Drink with your right hand," and he says, "No, I am drinking with my right hand," and I say, "But you are holding it with your left hand."

The Shaykh : This is drinking with the right hand, because when he ate with his right hand, he went against the Sunnah of the Master of the Messengers (peace and blessings be upon him), so he eats with a fistful, and the whole fist becomes greasy, so he dislikes taking the cup with this right hand because it would make the whole cup greasy, so he resorts to this trick. If they had followed the Sunnah, it would have spared them this trick.

The questioner : I asked some of the brothers, and they said that it is permissible if he does this, and I said, "But the holding will be with the left hand, so how is this possible?"

The Shaykh : My brother, this matter is a trick, and the reason is clear. If you asked him for this cup, how would he present it to you?
The student : With his left hand.

The Shaykh : If he presents it with his right hand, let him present it to his mouth first.
The student : Yes, so is it an unlegislated trick?

The Shaykh : Yes?
The student : Is it an unlegislated trick?

The Shaykh: Unlawful.
The student : May Allah preserve you.
