The questioner : I heard on the tapes, O Shaykh, that it is not established from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that he recited the Basmala aloud, and I said: Even if it were established, it was for the purpose of teaching.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : It was for the purpose of teaching.

The Shaykh : Yes, yes.

The questioner : "Al-Irwaa," Volume Two.

The Shaykh : Yes, may Allah guide you.
Yes.

The questioner : Yes. Shall we ask?

The Shaykh : Yes, ask and be concise.

The questioner : "Al-Irwaa," Volume Two, number 343, the hadith of Umm Salama: "That the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim in prayer" ... Ibn Jarir, and his wording is: "He used to pray in her house and recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim." This hadith indicates that the Messenger recited? Meaning, for the purpose of teaching, if Allah wills.

The Shaykh : My brother, "recited" does not mean "recited aloud."

The questioner : How did Umm Salama know that the Messenger recited Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim?

The Shaykh : It is known that he sometimes let them hear the verse, first of all.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And he did not recite his prayer aloud. So if you stand next to a companion of yours who is reciting quietly, you may understand what he recited, but this does not mean that he recited aloud.
