Explaining the error of one who repeats after the mu'adhdhin for the Friday prayer and then prays the greeting of the mosque

The Shaykh : It is necessary here to remind people of a matter in which many of them fall, and I saw some of them just now. One of them enters the mosque, and before he begins the greeting, the mu'adhdhin starts the adhan. So he remains standing until the mu'adhdhin finishes, meaning he occupies himself with responding to the mu'adhdhin. When he finishes responding, he begins the greeting. This is an error. It is said to the one who does this: reverse it and you will be correct. Meaning, if you enter the mosque and the mu'adhdhin starts the adhan, you should begin the khutbah. Why? Because listening to the khutbah is obligatory, whereas listening to the adhan is not obligatory. If you occupy yourself with responding to the mu'adhdhin, you will then turn away from listening to the khatib after finishing your response to the mu'adhdhin. In that case, you have reversed the matter. So, if the one entering the mosque does so while the mu'adhdhin is calling the adhan, he must proceed directly to the greeting and say, "Peace be upon you."
