The Reality of Tawhid

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the way to know the reality of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) in belief, conduct, and action?

Answer:
Answer: The way is learning, learning tawhid (the oneness of Allah), because many people, if you ask them what tawhid is, will not answer you because they have not learned its meaning. What is intended by it is singling out Allah in worship. The Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "Know, may Allah have mercy on you, that tawhid is singling out Allah in worship, and it is not singling out Allah in creation, provision, giving life, and causing death. This is not sufficient; this is tawhid al-rububiyyah (oneness of lordship). And the people of the jahiliyyah (the pre-Islamic age of ignorance) also believed in this, acknowledged it, and admitted it, but when they worshipped others alongside Allah, they became mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah) who will remain eternally in the Fire, except for those among them who repent to Allah before death and commit to worshipping Allah alone, having no partner. So tawhid is singling out Allah in worship; the tawhid to which the messengers called. The first thing every messenger says to his people is: {O my people, worship Allah; you have no god other than Him}. And tawhid is not that you believe that Allah is the Creator, the Provider, the Giver of Life, the Causer of Death, and the Manager! Yes, this is tawhid, but it is tawhid al-rububiyyah. Abu Jahl acknowledged it, and the mushrikin before him acknowledged it: {And if you ask them, who created the heavens and the earth, they will surely say, Allah}. {And if you ask them, who created them, they will surely say, Allah}. {Say, who is the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the great Throne? They will say, Allah}. They acknowledge this, but they do not adhere to its implication and what it necessitates of singling out Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) in worship and leaving the worship of what is other than Him.
