The virtue of supplication and when it is performed.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Tell us about the virtue of supplication? When is it performed? When are the hands raised in supplication? Is it at the end of the supplication or at the beginning? May you be rewarded.

Answer:
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may the prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. As for what follows: Supplication is the greatest of the types of worship. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Supplication is worship.” It is the greatest of the types of worship. And from this is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): “Hajj is ‘Arafah,” meaning that the greatest pillar of Hajj is standing at ‘Arafah. Supplication has etiquettes, among which is that one supplicates to Allah while his heart is present and he is certain of the response from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). And among them is that one does not supplicate for sin or for severing family ties, and does not transgress in supplication, for this is transgression in supplication. And among them is that one supplicates in his prostration: “The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration.” And he (may the prayers and peace be upon him) said: “As for prostration, increase your supplication in it, for it is likely that it will be answered for you.” And from it is supplication in the last third of the night, the time of the Divine Descent to the lowest heaven: “Our Lord descends every night to the lowest heaven, every night, and He says: Is there anyone who supplicates to Me that I may answer him? Is there anyone who asks Me that I may give him? Is there anyone who seeks My forgiveness that I may forgive him?” Raising the hands with supplication is part of the perfection of worship. One raises his hands with supplication as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his hands with supplication, except in the instances where the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated and did not raise his hands.
