Question:
We have an imam who snaps through the prayer and hurries in it, and he also hurries with the iqamah, and he also speeds through the Jumu'ah prayer so that his is the first mosque to finish. What is your guidance? May Allah benefit you.
Answer:
Answer: The imam bears a great responsibility. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The imam is a guarantor, and the mu'adhdhin is a trustee.” So the imam is a guarantor for the prayer of those behind him; he bears it if there is a defect in it due to him. He bears the prayer of those behind them. So the responsibility is great upon the imam, and his reward is great if he does well in leading the prayer, and enables the ma'mumin to have tranquility in the prayer, and does not rush in it, for this causes a defect for the ma'mumin. So he is a guarantor, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said.
