One Who Commits a Major Sin
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A questioner says: He used to commit a major sin among the major sins that warrant a legal hudud punishment for its perpetrator, but he has resolved to make a sincere repentance, he regrets what has passed, and he has resolved to perform Hajj. So, should he surrender himself to the legal judiciary to have the hudud punishment carried out against him, or is his sincere repentance sufficient, and will Allah conceal his sin in this world and the Hereafter?
Answer:
It is obligatory for him to repent to Allah with a sincere repentance, and to adhere to his religion by performing what is obligatory upon him of worship and legal duties, and to avoid what Allah the Exalted has forbidden him from the prohibited things, and to be truthful in this repentance. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, accepts the repentance of whoever repents. It is not necessary for him, if the hudud is not for a created being, to surrender himself to the authority to have the hudud carried out against him. His repentance is sufficient if it is sincere, if he improves and stands firm upon the religion of Allah, believes, and does good deeds in the future of his life. Indeed, if Allah wills, this will suffice him, and it is not required of him—rather, it is not even recommended—that he surrender himself or go to the authority to confess to the sin that occurred to him. Let him seek concealment through the concealment of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, along with sincere repentance and good deeds.
