The obligation regarding blessings.

Question:
How is the gratitude for blessings to be expressed? And what is obligatory regarding these numerous blessings that cannot be counted or enumerated upon the Muslim?
Answer:
Answer: It is obligatory to give thanks for the blessings, and giving thanks for the blessings is the guarantee of their preservation. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: {And when your Lord declared: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny [My favor]—My punishment will indeed be severe."} Gratitude consists of three things; it has three pillars, and it is not called gratitude unless they are present. The first is acknowledging the blessings of Allah inwardly; that is, you acknowledge in your self and your heart that these blessings are from Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), and that they are a favor from Allah upon you and upon the Muslims. The second pillar is speaking about them outwardly: {And as for the favor of your Lord, then tell [of it]}. You speak about the blessings of Allah and thank Him for them, and you remind your brothers of them and command them to give thanks for them. The third pillar is directing them toward the obedience of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), the obedience of the One who bestowed them and granted them.
