The Danger of Rumors to the Individual and Society
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Rumors pose a danger to the Muslim community. There is the truth, and there are those who are negligent in transmitting rumors and failing to verify them. They say, “What is the danger of rumors to the individual and society?”
Answer:
Answer: Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) warned against spreading rumors that compromise security or terrify people. He said (Glorified and Exalted is He): {O you who believe! If there comes to you a disobedient person with news, verify it, lest you strike a people in ignorance and then become regretful of what you have done.} And He said (Glorified and Exalted is He): {Indeed, those who love that immorality should spread among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and Allah knows while you do not know.} Therefore, it is not permissible to spread rumors, even if what is mentioned is true; it is not to be spread but concealed. Allah commanded covering the faults of a Muslim, even if he has committed an error; his fault is to be covered while the Shari'ah ruling is applied to him, along with the covering.
