Question:
This questioner says in the hadith, O Shaykh, (The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe), what do we benefit from this hadith, and what are the most prominent points of reflection in it? May you be rewarded.

Answer:
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. The meaning of the hadith is that among the characteristics of Islam and the perfection of Islam is that the Muslims are safe from the tongue of the Muslim. He does not backbite them, nor does he sow discord between them through talebearing, inciting some of them against others with what causes their hearts to be grieved. The tongue is dangerous, and perhaps the talebearer will ignite war between the Muslims because of his speech and his incitement. Also, even if he does not establish war between them, he will divide them, so they will not find any love for their Muslim brother because of talebearing and incitement. For this reason, Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: (O you who believe! If there comes to you a fasiq (open sinner) with news, verify it, lest you harm a people unknowingly and then become, over what you have done, regretful). This is the danger of the tongue to the person and to people. A person is not safe from the defects of the tongue except if he restrains his tongue, limiting himself to beneficial speech and speech to the extent of need. For this reason, it was reported in the hadith: (Whoever guarantees for me what is between his two jaws and what is between his two legs, I guarantee for him Paradise). This means if he guards his tongue and guards his private parts, then the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) guarantees for him Paradise. And when Mu'adh ibn Jabal said to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah, will we be taken to account for what we say?" He said, "May your mother be in grief, O Mu'adh! And what will throw people on their faces, or he said, on their noses, into the Fire, except the harvest of their tongues?" If the Muslims are safe from your tongue, then they are secure from your harm, and you are safe from the evil of the tongue. This is one of the greatest characteristics of the Muslim, who makes peace with his brothers and does not harm them with his speech, tongue, or hand. This means the Muslims will be safe from his hand, so he does not take their wealth by theft, usurpation, plundering, or otherwise, openly or secretly. Nor does he transgress against them by striking their bodies without right. And even more so, he does not transgress against them by killing, which is the greatest. (And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hellfire, to dwell therein forever, and Allah is angry with him and has cursed him and prepared for him a great punishment). And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) (The Muslim) means the one with perfect Islam, whose actions and words are in accordance with Islam, and he does not contradict Islam in his speech or his work.
