The ruling on fasting in regions where the day is long

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q274: The questioner says: My husband is studying in Australia. Is it permissible for him to leave off fasting because fasting is difficult for him, and because the sun rises at five in the morning and sets at nine? What is the ruling on this?
A274: There is no doubt that there are Muslims in Australia, there are Islamic communities there,
and there are students there. He should ask the Muslims and do as they do. It is not permissible to leave off fasting as long as there is night and day in the place. He must fast the day, even if it is short. If the day is short, he fasts it, or if it is the opposite and the day is long, he fasts it as well, from the appearance of the dawn until the setting of the sun in any place.
