Ruling on purifying ritual impurity with something other than water

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q110: The questioner asks: Is ritual impurity purified with something other than water, and is the steam used to wash clothes and garments a purifier for these garments?
A110: Ritual impurity is not purified except with water, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings before His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure waterوَهُوَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلَ الرِّيَاحَ بُشْرًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَحْمَتِهِ وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً طَهُورًا
[Al-Furqan 25:48]
, and His saying:
and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.
[Al-Anfal 8:11]
. Therefore, impurities are not purified except by water, except for what has been reported regarding impurity on the sole of a leather sock or sandal, which is wiped with dry earth and thereby purified; there is an authentic hadith regarding this. They also said that if the sun and wind remove the color of the impurity and its traces, and nothing of it remains, then it is purified thereby.
