Explaining what is obligatory for one who has missed fasts to make up and wishes to fast the six days of Shawwal

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q456: The questioner, Umm Hind, says: A woman has a full month of Ramadan to make up, and she wants to fast the six days after Ramadan. Which should she start with? May Allah reward you.
A456: Fasting the six days after Ramadan is a recommended practice established by the authentic hadith
from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which he said:
Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the entire yearمن صام رمضان وأتبعه ستًا من شوال، فكأنما صام الدهر
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:437
. This means fasting the entire year; because a good deed is rewarded ten times over, so Ramadan counts as ten months, and six days count as two months, each day counting as ten, making a total of twelve months, which are the months of the year, praise be to Allah. However, if a person has missed fasts from Ramadan to make up, he must start with making them up until he completes Ramadan; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwalمن صام رمضان وأتبعه ستًا من شوال
Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 9:610
follow it, meaning: the six days must necessarily come after fasting the month of Ramadan. This is clear from the hadith. Also, a recommended practice that follows an act is not brought forward before it, such as the regular voluntary prayer after Maghrib, which is not brought forward before it, and the regular voluntary prayer after 'Isha', which is not brought forward before it. This is a recommended practice that follows Ramadan, so it is not brought forward before completing the month of Ramadan.
