The ruling on praying in front of hanging pictures

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q246: The questioner, Zaynab from Benghazi, Libya, asks: What is the ruling on praying in front of hanging pictures, and what is the ruling on a woman wearing jewelry during prayer?
A246: It is obligatory for the Muslim to stay away from everything that distracts him from his prayer or disturbs it. He should not pray facing a mirror, an open door, or anything else that distracts him or disturbs his prayer. Likewise, regarding pictures, a person should not pray in a place where there is a hanging or standing picture, because this involves imitating those who worship pictures, and he should not face those pictures;
because this involves imitating those who worship pictures. This is one aspect. The second aspect is that if these pictures are in front of him, they disturb his prayer by causing him to look at them. As for the issue of wearing jewelry in prayer, this is one of the distractions that occupy the one praying. He should not do anything in his prayer that distracts him from it. A woman should delay wearing jewelry or a ring until she has finished her prayer. However, if she wears it and it does not take a long time and does not involve much effort, her prayer is valid. A minor action does not affect the prayer, such as adjusting a turban or putting on a watch, and the like. This is a minor action that does not affect the prayer, although it is recommended for the Muslim to devote himself to his prayer and focus on it.
