Placing a patch on the hand to help quit smoking

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 21734 )
Q: I wish to abstain from smoking, and I ask Allah to help me in that. My question is: There are patches that help a smoker overcome the problem of quitting smoking. They are used by being stuck on the arm. Is it permissible to use them in Ramadan? Knowing that this patch automatically releases nicotine if the body needs it , I ask you to please answer, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: We ask Allah to grant you success in repenting from smoking and to help you quit it, for it is pure harm, with no good in it in any way. As for what you asked about regarding the permissibility of using a patch that helps you quit, which is stuck on the arm, is it permissible for you to use it in Ramadan while you are fasting? We say: This is not permissible for you; because when the specialized doctors were asked about the nature of this patch, they informed that it supplies the body with nicotine, and it reaches the blood. This invalidates the fast just as smoking does; because the effect is the same. And you must have sincere determination to quit smoking without this method. How many smokers have repented to Allah and quit smoking without using this patch? And whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
