The second question of Fatwa No. ( 14419 )
Q2: In the month of Ramadan, on one of the nights, I was staying with my cousin, who is also my in-law, as his daughter is my wife. We were in the desert, or rather in the wilderness, living in tents, and there was no mosque nearby.
The village was far from us. After I had my pre-dawn meal, I slept and woke up suddenly. I asked my wife, "What time is it?" She said, "Four o'clock." At that time, the fast was to begin at a quarter to five, so there was not much time left before the time for abstaining. I went back to sleep, and when I woke up, I thought I had not slept for long. My wife had placed water by my head for me to drink before the time for abstaining. I said, "The time is still early," and I drank the water. When I came out of the tent, I found that the time had passed, although the sun had not yet risen and it was approximately a quarter past five. Please note that I did not have a watch on me at that time. What is the ruling in this case?
J2: It is obligatory for you to make up the day for the day on which you drank after the dawn had appeared; because your drinking of water took place during the day. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
