Explaining what is required regarding the continued advice to sons who abandon prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q337: The questioner says: My husband divorced me after I had borne him five sons, and I lived with them. I tried to raise them after this husband left us. When they grew up and became young men, they initially became lax in their prayer, and then they abandoned it entirely. Neither admonition nor reminding them was of any benefit, and I tried with them. Is there any sin on me for their abandoning of prayer? We ask the honorable Shaykh to guide them, perhaps they will hear this guidance?
A337: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) charged parents with the responsibility of commanding their children to pray. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Command your children to pray when they are seven years old, and beat them for it when they are ten, and separate them in their bedsمروا أبناءكم بالصلاة وهم أبناء سبع، واضربوهم عليها لعشر، وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5
And Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:
And enjoin prayer upon your family [and people] and be steadfast therein. We ask you not for provision; We provide for you, and the [best] outcome is for [those of] righteousness.
[Taha 20:132]
. And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded.
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
,
So you must persist in commanding them to pray, pressing them on this, and emphasizing it to them. And whoever among them has reached the age of ten, beat him until he prays. This is part of the parents' responsibility toward their children. Do not despair and do not grow weary of commanding them and compelling them. Seek help from Allah against them, and then [seek help from] those who have influence over them among their relatives and friends, and ask them to advise them.
