Ordering Children to Pray

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 17006 )
Q 2: When my children disobey me regarding performing the prayer, what is their ruling? Should I disavow them? Also, when I order my daughter to wear the hijab, her father refuses, and she does too. What is the ruling on both of them?
A 2: You must persist in ordering your children to pray and compelling them to do so once they reach the age of ten or older. As for before they reach ten, you order them to pray without compulsion, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Command your children to pray at seven, beat them for it at ten, and separate them in their beds.مروا أولادكم بالصلاة لسبع واضربوهم عليها لعشر وفرقوا بينهم في المضاجع
Sunan ad-Daraqutni 3:5
. Even if their father does not help you in this, it is obligatory for everyone. Likewise, it is obligatory for you to order your daughter to wear the hijab and compel her to do so, even if her father does not help you in this. So continue in ordering them, advising them, and guiding them to good, and be glad of the great reward. We ask Allah for guidance for us, for you, for them, and for their father. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
