Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q259: The questioner asks: What is the meaning of the hadith:
May Allah have mercy upon a man who prays four before Al-Asr.رحم الله امرءًا صلى قبل العصر أربعًا
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 430Hasan (Darussalam)
?

A259: The hadith contains the statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
May Allah mercy on a person who prays four Rak'at before the 'Asr prayer.رحم الله امرءًا صلَّى أربعًا قبل العصر
Bulugh al-Maram 2:263
These four rak'ahs are not rawatib, neither before nor after the obligatory prayer; rather, they are purely voluntary (nafilah), and there is great good in being consistent with them, in accordance with the transmitted Sunnah.
